"...ICOMOS Principles (1996) recommends that those involved in the recording process possess the skills, knowledge, and awareness appropriate to the recording operations that are to be carried out."
in Recording, Documentation, and Information Management for the Conservation of Heritage Places: guiding principles(2007)
How can these principles be addressed in an educational perspective of an architecture degree?"
Through an appropriate setting of practice and reflection, the students will become aware of the invariant principles that should lead the recording activities and will understand the need for an active attitude to adequately look for the appropriate and up-to-date tools and methods to better comply with the objectives defined under those activities.
The use of digital tools for the documentation of tangible or intangible heritage is not just a technical issue. There needs to be an appropriate framework at the level of principles and guidelines that should guide every documentary action, as well as the need for the availability and access to a repertoire of good practices. The purpose of EduDigHe project is to produce a theoretical and practical reflection on the impact that digital tools can have in terms of asset knowledge production and the possibilities that open with the combination of different approaches and methods. Among these are digital photography, spectral images, 3D scanning, the use of UAVs, 3D modeling, simulation in a virtual reality environment and simulation of ambiences. Methodologically, the research group will investigate with the support of courses such as: i) 3D Digitization; ii) Light and Color; iii) Conservation, Restoration and Rehabilitation; and iv) Project. In addition to the action taken in these courses, it will look up to integrate master's thesis and partnerships with external entities such as municipalities (eg. CMLisboa), cultural institutions (eg. FCGulbenkian), and other public entities (eg. DGPC).
As a result it is expected the production of pedagogy supporting documentation in the areas indicated and reference documentation for the general public and for agents that, in their endeavours, deal with the tangible or intangible heritage using digital content. This documentation will be available in accessible digital media via internet and accompanied by interactive content, supported by case studies and practical examples, representative of the issues under review.
